A CHRISTMAS CAROL, one of Charles Dickens’ most loved books, first published by Chapman & Hall on 19 December 1843, tells the story of old Ebenezer Scrooge (miserable, bitter old man with no friends) and his transformation resulting from supernatural visits by Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future. Charles Dickens is one of the most recognized celebrities of English literature. He is considered by critics the “founder ” of the social novel , namely that portrays the lives of economically disadvantaged social classes and denounces situations of injustice and prejudice. His imagination, wit, mastery of the language and huge creative output single him out as one of the few people who genuinely deserve to be called genius.
